Ayu is life, the living, the longevity and veda is a methodical knowledge or science. Ayurveda literally means the science of life or longevity. 

      There are many facets ot Ayurveda. It is a science which is also a tradition, it is a practice which is also a principle.

To begin with, Ayurveda is a science bound by universal principles.   These universal principles can be applied in any place and circumstance to derive  the most suitable application in the given context. Such applications have been practiced over a few millania in various parts of Indian subcontinent, hence these practices have become and integral part of tradition, faithand even religious practices. Over the period of time, some of these practices may have survived as intended and some may have disappeared, become obsolate or even changed for better or worse. Hence it is necessary to validate, bring out the context, analyse and understand what is Rta or right way of applying it. 

Every person who is passionate about Ayurveda is in this journey of rediscovery. Some choose to learn or practice traditionally, some conventionally, some scientifically' and some- just with their faith in it. These methods are just as diverse as the expressions and perception of Ayurveda and it appeals to people in the same sense.
